As stipulated by the Affordable Care Act, all health insurance plans including those through the military, Marketplace and employer-provided plans, must include breastfeeding equipment and support for expectant and new mothers. The only exception is for grandfathered plans, which were plans from before March 23, 2010, and are quite rare today. This means you should be eligible to receive a free breast pump through your insurance before or immediately following the arrival of your new baby!
Receiving a Breast Pump Through Insurance
As part of Carolina’s Home Medical Equipment, Charlotte’s leading source for medical supplies, CHMEI Breast Pumps is proud to partner with Medela and Spectra to provide our customers with high-quality, industry-leading pumps that offer a comfortable, efficient experience. To connect you with the right pump for your needs and preferences, we do everything we can to make it easy and convenient to order your breast pump.
There are only three simple steps to getting your breast pump from CHMEI
- Request your physician to send us your prescription for a breast pump along with your insurance information. Their office can fax this to (704) 846-7911.
- Our experienced customer service team will verify your eligibility and benefits with your insurance. Within about 2-3 business days, one of our experienced Breast Pump Specialists will reach out to you to talk about your options. In the meantime, learn more about our available breast pumps!
- During your final trimester, you can visit our Charlotte office to pick up your pump, or we can ship it right to your door.
We also carry all the accessories and replacement parts you need to support and improve your breastfeeding experience. Purchases over $49 are eligible for free shipping!
Using Your HSA or FSA to Buy Your Breast Pump Accessories
Because breast pump parts need to be replaced regularly to keep your pump working effectively, you can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flex Spending Account (FSA) to purchase your replacement parts, such as valves, valve membranes, or tubing. You can also use your HSA or FSA to purchase a breast pump if your insurance only covers a rented pump or a manual breast pump, and you don’t feel like those options are right for your needs.
If your HSA/FSA account has a Visa or MasterCard payment option, simply provide this information to one of our customer service team members, and we’ll ship you the items you need when you need it! Our customer service team at CHMEI will also send you an itemized receipt of your purchase so you can submit it for reimbursement.
